Cozumel Beaches & Snorkeling
On the Couples Cruise the hottest thing to do will be the private tour to the Naked Party at Passion Island. If you don't get in on that (and most of the ship won't) we wanted to share some of our experience on how to enjoy a day of snorkeling and exploring the local scene on Cozumel.
We like local Beach Clubs. Many are with in a close taxi ride of the cruise pier. Plan about $10 for up to 4 passengers each way. Here are a few recommendations for getting a taste of the local scene.
Most beach clubs simply expect you to order drinks and lunch as the price of monopolizing a table and lounge chairs in the shade and using the showers and bathrooms.
Beach Clubs are Cozumel's answer to providing inexpensive and comfortable oceanfront facilities to all. They provide an excellent way for visitors to sample a variety of beachfront experiences at reasonable prices.
A rule of thumb is that beach clubs open at 8 AM and close at 5 PM.
Fred's 10 point plan for a great day in COZUMEL!
- SLEEP IN! Let the crowd get off the ship first.
- Order room service and enjoy breakfast on the balcony.
- Around 11 head off the ship...
- At the end of the pier catch a cab for a 10-15 minute ride to a local beach club.
This will cost about $10 for up to 4 passengers. - Find an ocean front table and lounge chairs with some shade - you can use them for free if you order drinks and lunch.
- SNORKEL say hello to the friendly fish.
Work up a good thirst. it will make the beer taste THAT much better - Order a COLD Corona with a lime, some crunchy chips with guacamole and sizzling fajita. Muy fantastico!
- Enjoy 3 or 4 hours in the sun
- Ask the bartender to call a cab and get back to the ship around 3
- Just in time to catch a nap and some cabin time to refress before another WILD night on the Couples Cruise.
Naked Island Party - Couples Cruise Style
We think the #1 pick for what to do in Cozumel is to Party Naked on Passion Island. We've rented out the entire island so the only people you'll see are couples from the Couples Cruise. This is an optional tour with an additional cost.
INSIDER TIP: You can book this tour after you complete your Online Registration aka SeaPass for the cruise. Booking will be available in the Royal Caribbean online system under tours. Book EARLY -- there are 450 spots on this tour and 2300 passengers on the ship!
The Passion Island excursion will include transfers and a catamaran sailing to and from Passion Island. On the island you will find restrooms, showers, lockers, sun beds and hammocks. Also included are pedal boats, kayaks, trampoline on land and in the water and volleyball. There is a Mexican buffet included with BBQ chicken, Mahi-Mahi Fish, green and fruit salad, rice, guacamole, pico de gallo and chips. And of course, an open bar includes soft drinks (Pepsi, orange, 7 up, diet), mineral water, beer, rum punch, tequila sunrise, margarita, sex on the beach and passion island special.
Cozumel's Nude Beach Bar - Mezcalito's
Mezcalitos is great if you want to get away from the ship's crowd or you arent lucky enough to get in on the Passion Island excursion and you still want to get Naked!
When you visit play the famous ring tossing game, beach comb, take a SIESTA in the hammocks, dance to Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley’s music and just be crazy!
For 25 years, loyal customers and friends have always returned
to visit, enjoy the day and to share their experiences. You will find a bar & grill alond with a 'Naked Beach.
Taxi is how we recommend getting here. Usually about $14 one-way. You can agree for your cab to pick you up at a fixed hour for the same amount.
Cozumel: Best Snorkeling Clubs
We like small local places. Our idea is usually to try to get away from the crowd and enjoy something that is not commercial and touristy. All the clubs listed here are close enough to downtown and the international cruise ship piers that its as economical to get there by taxi as it is to rent a car. Many of the clubs listed don't have cover charges and only ask that you purchase a few drinks or snacks while you use their beach furniture.
Money Bar aka Dzul Ha Beach Club
On the old beach road about 1/2 mile past the entrance to El Presidente Hotel and across from the old Club del Sol Hotel. 10 minutes from downtown by car or taxi, 6 minutes from the southern cruise piers.
Lockers, restrooms, outdoor shower, and lounge chairs. They rent snorkel equipment. Water sports, spa services available. Bar and reasonably priced restaurant.
Nice covered wooden deck stretching out over the water with tables and chairs. Great for drinks or lunch and for people who just want to read and enjoy the view while others snorkel.
Corona Beach Club
Also on the old beach road about 1/2 mile past the main entrance to Chankannab National Park.
Lockers, restrooms, outdoor shower, tanning pool and lounge chairs. They rent snorkel equipment if you want to try for the first time. Bar and reasonably priced restaurant. This stretch of shoreline has always offered some of the best shore snorkeling on the island. Easy, walk-in access over sand-bags.

Two open-air restaurants.
Serene and shady gardens surround a memorable lagoon and make for a great stroll when you've had enough sun..
There are bathroom & showers. Snorkel gear rental. Snorkeling can be okay but won't be great. Still it's such a pretty place to spend half a day.
Do be sure to get there early, however, In high season if you arrive at 11:30, you may find there is not a single chair left in the shade.
Extra cost for Scuba, Sea trek, Swim with the Dolphins.

Playa Azul Beach Club
Location: 3 miles north of downtown directly next door to the Playa Azul Hotel and across the street from The Lobster House.
Restrooms, outdoor shower, lounge chairs. Bar and reasonably priced restaurant
Playa Azul has a small beach that got smaller in recent hurricanes. there is some decent snorkeling to the left and right of this along the shoreline. Watch out for strong currents.
White Sand and Beach Toys
The listings below provide long stretch of natural, white sand beach.
Snorkeling will be nonexistent here but you can't beat 'em for pretty!
San Francisco Beach Club
Location: Approximately 8 miles south of downtown where the old island road intersections with the new, faster road.
Amenities: showers, changing rooms, chaise lounges and palapas, pretty restaurant and bar with swings, beach toys, snorkel rentals
Comments: More than half the sand beaches found on the west side of the island are artificially created with white sand trucked in to cover the natural, rocky ironshore. San Francisco is the first of several real natural white sand beaches that you'll come to if you travel south from the direction of downtown San Miguel.
Paradise Beach Club
Approximately 8 miles south of downtown and an easy beach stroll from San Francisco Beach
At Paradise Beach, entrance, chairs and umbrellas are free. An $8 fun-pass is also available for unlimited use of the beach toys - including kayaks, climbing iceberg and floating sun mats.
Food here is very good. Down side is it can get pretty crowded. Hit this place no later than 11 to stake out a good spot
